Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival – Erykah Badu, The Roots, Usher

When I think of Curaçao I must admit that my mind immediately jumps to world-class scuba diving. But I also envision the brightly coloured buildings along the waterfront, the long golden sandy beaches and the vivacious smiling residents of this Dutch gem in the Southern Caribbean.

Curaçao is situated closest to Venezuela and is part of the ABC Islands, made up of neighbouring Aruba and Bonaire. All known for their diving, Curaçao’s snorkelling and diving encompass 40 different dive areas, covering 65 individual sites. “Curaçao was chosen as a Top 3 location for ‘Best Snorkeling’, ‘Best Shore Diving’ and ‘Best Macro Marine Life’ by the readers of Scuba Diving Magazine in their annual Reader’s Choice Awards. The Mushroom Forest made the Top 100 List as one of the best dive sites, while Ocean Encounters was selected as one of the best dive operators.

Curaçao remains a destination on my list to visit. I have been close on three separate occasions, even so much as researching and planning each visit. However, Curaçao is much more than diving; the island is quickly setting itself apart from its Caribbean counterparts by cultivating an environment rich with music and entertainment-driven tourism.”

Even though I won’t be making it to Curaçao anytime soon I had to pass this news along. Every year the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival takes place in Curaçao and while I personally am not a fan of the blues, I am a fan of many included in this year’s lineup. Imagine two days of Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Usher, Marc Anthony, Toto, Luis Miguel, Raphael Saadiq, Los Lobos, Harry Belafonte, Paul Anka, Sonny Rollins and New Cool Collective! These are just a few of the global music superstars that will grace the Curaçao stage in only the Festival’s fourth year!

DIVING – The one place that came highly recommended, and where we were planning on staying is the Lions Dive and Beach Resort. Their location is ideal; on a private, plam studded beach plus the fringe reef of the Curaçao National Underwater Park is in front of the resort.

Curaçao seems the hot place to visit this summer. What more could one want? Incredibly talented jazz musicians coupled with world-class diving. If I could go I’d be there in a minute!
